Every year, the staff of the North-East Iceland Knowledge Network compile data on population development in the network&#x27;s area of operation, and that work began as soon as the data had been published. <\/p>\n<p>Initial figures and calculations show that the population of the area increased by 45, from 5,007 to 5,052. The sex ratio is similar to previous years, with 531 males and 471 females. The average age of the population is 41.2 years. <\/p>\n<p>If individual settlements are examined, the population decreases in Laugar, K\u00f3pasker and Bakkafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, but increases in H\u00fasav\u00edk, Reykjahl\u00ed\u00f0, Raufarh\u00f6fn and \u00de\u00f3rsh\u00f6fn. The population in rural areas decreases around K\u00f3pasker, \u00de\u00f3rsh\u00f6fn and Bakkafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, but otherwise increases in the vicinity of H\u00fasav\u00edk, Reykjahl\u00ed\u00f0 and Laugar. In the vicinity of Raufarh\u00f6fn, the population remains unchanged. <\/p>\n<p>The largest percentage increase in population is in Tj\u00f6rneshreppi, at 8.93%, which is the second-largest percentage increase in the entire country. Next is Sk\u00fatusta\u00f0ahreppi with 2.55%, and finally \u00deingeyjarsveit with 1.8%.<\/p>\n<p>The median age of residents is falling in all municipalities except for Nor\u00f0ur\u00feing and Svalbar\u00f0shreppur. The median age is highest in Tj\u00f6rneshreppur, at 56 years, compared to 57.9 in 2021. It is lowest in Langanesbygg\u00f0 at 39.3 years, compared to 40.6 years in 2021.
