During this ten-year period, the population has increased in Norðurþing, Tjörneshreppi and Skútustaðahreppi, but decreased in Langanesbyggð, Svalbarðshreppi and Þingeyjarsveit. The gender ratio, which was approximately 491 women to 510 men in 2013, has shifted to 471 women and 531 men. The average age of residents in Þingeyjarsýsla is about 3 years higher than the national average. The population has increased in all settlements, with the exception of Bakkafjörður and Laugar. The increase is smallest in Kópasker, by one resident, and largest in Húsavík, by 205 residents. The rural population is decreasing everywhere in the region, except in Skútustaðahreppur and in Öxarfjörður.

The final chapter of the report this time deals with immigration and emigration. The information covers the years 2012-2021 and is interesting in many respects. If arrivals are examined in excess of departures by gender within the Knowledge Network's area of operation, it becomes clear that there is much less movement of women than of men during the period, and that the balance is skewed towards more women leaving than arriving. Four years stand out when it comes to female migration: in 2012, 2016 and 2020, the number of women emigrating was between 36 and 48 higher than the number immigrating, while in 2017, 57 more women immigrated than emigrated. As for men, the years 2016 and 2017 stand out in terms of arrivals, with 177 and 319 men moving in respectively. In 2018 and 2020, more men moved away from the region than to it, 274 in the former year and 319 in the latter.

When looking at inter-municipal migration within North East Iceland, it is common for both men and women to move from the municipalities outside the Knowledge Network's area of operation to those within it. The largest migration within the region for both men and women occurred in 2013, 2019, 2020, 2021. The same is true for inter-regional migration: it is more common for residents to move from municipalities within the Knowledge Network's area of operation to municipalities outside North East Iceland than from municipalities outside the area to it. In 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2020, a total of 163 more women moved from the region to other parts of Iceland than moved to it. In 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, there were more male out-moves from the region to other parts of the country than in-moves. In total, 77 more men moved from municipalities within the Knowledge Network's area of operation to other parts of Iceland than moved in.

When looking at migration between countries, a different picture emerges from that of migration within or between regions of a country. The reality is that in most cases, there are more arrivals than departures for both men and women. Only in 2012 were more women emigrating than immigrating, but in three years, more men emigrated than immigrated: 2013, 2018 and 2020.

The report can be accessed here.

Í dag kom út árleg skýrsla Þekkingarnets Þingeyinga um mannfjöldaþróun á starfssvæði Þekkingarnetsins.
