The year 2025 was extremely eventful for The Knowledge Network, characterised by a vibrant learning environment, innovation, and a diverse range of research and development projects.<\/p>\n
The Icelandic language teaching was in many ways unconventional and aimed to best meet the needs of the students. In March, a group of students from North East Iceland completed an Icelandic course that was part of the project. The Travelling Teacher \u2013 Icelandic at the workplace <\/em>where Icelandic language teaching was brought into workplaces and taught during staff's working hours. At the same time, work was carried out on another project, Let's give the Icelandic a chance., <\/em>which works to create an open and accessible platform for dialogue and socialising among residents. Alongside this, traditional Icelandic language classes were on offer. The Knowledge Network has striven to promote the inclusion of foreign residents in the community and, during the year, conducted an interview study among immigrants in Nor\u00f0ur\u00feing with the aim of shedding light on their experiences and status in the municipality. The project was presented at the 2025 Regional Development Conference and is supported by the Immigration Development Fund.<\/p>\n As usual, the Centre for Continuing Education offered a wide range of courses from the Centre for Education of the Business Sector, along with other courses. Special resources and courses were also available in collaboration with the Employment Authority and Virk Vocational Rehabilitation. A new course in the Digital Workshop was very well received and quickly became fully booked. To meet demand, additional courses were offered where students received training in the Fab Lab's main tools and technology, and the opportunity to develop their ideas and unleash their creativity. A group of Fab Lab instructors was also established during the year through a new training programme Instructors at the Fab Lab<\/em> which The Knowledge Network developed in collaboration with the Training Centre for the Business Sector. We are extremely proud of this excellent group, who continue to share their knowledge with the workshop's rapidly growing user base. At the end of the year, we also held the graduation for students from the PCC heavy industry school, which has been running for the past two years.<\/p>\n At the annual conference of the Training Centre for the Business Sector in November, a student of the Knowledge Network, Sunnar Rae, was chosen as the 2025 role model for adult learning, and we are extremely proud of her. She has shown exceptional diligence and ambition in her studies and has been a great role model to others in utilising opportunities for learning and development through further education.<\/p>\n As usual, university students worked at the institution over the summer on research and other projects. There is a long-standing tradition of university students gaining work experience at The Knowledge Network and taking part in a wide variety of projects run by the institution.<\/p>\n During the year, reports were published with the findings of a survey of international tourists in the M\u00fdvatn area and on H\u00fasav\u00edk. The survey focused on travel habits, guest experience and the main influencers in their choice of destination. The impact of film and television content was examined in particular, where the influence of the Eurovision film and Game of Thrones was clearly evident. The European project Niche II was also in full swing; it is a collaboration in the field of vocational education and training which aims to strengthen professionals in the field of intangible cultural heritage.<\/p>\n There was a great deal of activity at Hra\u00f0inn, an innovation hub which welcomed over 3,000 visitors during the year. Groups came here for creative work and research, and a large number of visitors also attended events and courses organised by Hra\u00f0inn. The Fab Lab received a warm welcome and donations during the year, including a magnificent metal milling machine from GPG Fish Processing, which has proved very popular.<\/p>\n The annual 'Boot Camp' for the Fab Lab workshops in Iceland was held in H\u00fasav\u00edk in May. It is a three-day event where staff from Fab Lab workshops from all over the country come together to strengthen collaboration, share knowledge and develop new ideas. Fab Lab H\u00fasav\u00edk was also selected to host a five-day BootCamp for all Fab Labs in the Nordic countries in January, which is a very important recognition of the lab's work.<\/p>\n In March, the KRUBBUR idea sprint took place at St\u00e9ttinni, which saw record participation and a veritable storm of ideas filled the house. The partners of the Sprint were SSNE and the University of Akureyri.<\/p>\n At the end of September, a dynamic and extremely well-attended Design Conference took place, where the festival's diverse events were packed to the rafters. The core of the Conference is design and innovation, but each year a third thread is woven into the programme to explore new areas. This year, the focus was on food and food design. The programme included a speech by the Minister of Culture, Innovation and University Affairs, Logi Einarsson, lectures by entrepreneurs and designers, exhibitions, culinary creations and musical performances. Restaurants in H\u00fasav\u00edk also took an active part, experimenting with new ingredients and flavours, including minke whale, which has rarely appeared on the nation's plates.<\/p>\n There was strong demand for remote examinations during the year, and many students made use of the Knowledge Network's facilities to sit their exams in a quiet and comfortable setting close to home. As usual, the Knowledge Network offered study and careers advice to all residents of the region and provided competence assessments to evaluate the skills and knowledge of the workforce. Such an assessment can shorten the time required for training and is an incentive for people to complete their formal education.<\/p>\n At the end of the year, \u00d3li Halld\u00f3rsson left The Knowledge Network after more than two decades as director. \u00d3li has held the post since the organisation's foundation, and under his leadership, the organisation has grown and strengthened steadily.
