Húsavík Theatre is over 120 years old and is an amateur theatreIn 2019 they showed the Little shop of horrors which was sold out again and again.

Museums

Byggðasafn (folk museum) Norður-Þingeyinga near KópaskerIn the museum you will find a large selection of handicrafts of various kinds, elegant embroidery, weaving and knitting. There are also various other items, toys, fire trucks, guns, carvings, blacksmithing and much more. 

Safnahúsið á Húsavík, The Culture House in Húsavík has a magnificent maritime exhibition that shows the development of fishing in Þingeyjarsýsla. There is also a modern and progressive exhibition dedicated to the Cooperative Movement in Iceland as well as an interesting natural history and regional museum exhibition that shows the interaction of man and nature in Þingeyjarsýsla in the period 1850 to 1950. 

Hvalasafnið á Húsavík, The Húsavík Whale Museum. The aim of the museum is to convey information about whales, marine ecology and the interaction of whales and humans through history in an entertaining and interesting way. The Whale Museum, along with the University of Iceland’s Research Center forms the educational component to the whale watching trips, enjoyed in Húsavík during the summer months. 

Skjálftasetrið á Kópaskeri, at the Kópasker earthquake center you will find an exhibition related to the Kópasker earthquake on January 13, 1976 and the Krafla fires. There you can find pictures, videos and other material that shows the consequences of this great earthquake which was about 6.3 on the Richter scale.   

Library (bókasöfn) 

Threre are three libraries in Norðurþing. They offer books and magazines for children and grownups in Icelandic  and also some in other languages. They offer DVDs, audiobooks and access to computers and internet.  

The one-year membership card costs 2000kr. Children up to 18 years old and pensioners get a free card. The card is valid for all the libraries in Norðurþing. It is also possible  to buy a card that is valid for 3 months for 850kr.
