Educational materials for those working with intangible cultural heritage
Indications from the analytical work of partners in NICHE (https://www.nicheproject.eu/mapping.php) suggest that the concept of 'cultural heritage' has changed considerably in recent decades, partly due to definitions developed by UNESCO.
The importance of intangible cultural heritage is not necessarily the cultural manifestation itself, but the wealth of knowledge and skills that is passed down through it from one generation to the next.
The social and economic value of this knowledge dissemination is important for the general public and minority groups, and is equally important for low-income and high-income countries.
There are various educational pathways for those working with intangible cultural heritage, both within educational institutions and with individuals or groups who possess this specialised knowledge.
There are many challenges and also opportunities in working with intangible cultural heritage. People's awareness of what is available in their local area has increased due to the pandemic. There are also great opportunities in collaboration and in developing work with intangible cultural heritage at a local level.
