Education

The Knowledge Network is the centre for lifelong learning in the Þingeyjar regions and has a defined role in serving adults who live in the area and are studying or are considering studying, regardless of their location or the course of study. Thus, the Knowledge Network serves students at all levels of study, whether building a general foundation, studying at sixth-form or university level, or planning for further study.

The service for adult university and further education students is primarily in the form of providing facilities, support and advice. This way, students can take their exams, attend remote meetings and work in study rooms across the service area, as well as meeting with an academic and careers adviser from time to time. Last but not least, they can have a coffee with the staff of the Knowledge Network and enjoy the company of other students.

Continuing education

In addition to this core service for learners, the Knowledge Network also provides educational provision for adults, seeking to meet the needs and wishes of the communities and their residents. The majority of this education is based on the Act on Further Education and aligns with the objectives of providing practical training for the workforce. A special emphasis is placed on providing appropriate learning opportunities for individuals in the workforce with limited formal education or who face reduced opportunities for learning or employment participation. However, emphasis is also placed on running short courses for encouragement and leisure.  The Knowledge Network is one of 11 recognised centres for continuing education in the country, operating in the field of further education under the framework of the Act No. 27/2010, in accordance with an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and University Affairs.
