The Knowledge Network is a center for lifelong learning in Þingeyjarsýslar and has defined a role in serving adults who live in the area and are studying or intending to study, wherever they are and whatever their studies are. Thus, the Knowledge Network serves students at all levels of study, whether they are building a general foundation, studying in upper secondary schools or at university level.
The service for adult university and upper secondary school students is primarily in the form of creating facilities, support and providing advice. This way, students can take their exams and sit in on remote meetings and do their work in study rooms around the work area, as well as sit down from time to time with a study and career advisor. Last but not least, drink coffee with the Knowledge Network staff and enjoy closeness with other students.
In addition to this basic service to students, the Knowledge Network also maintains a range of courses for adults, where efforts are made to meet the needs and wishes of the communities and residents. Most of this coursework is based on the Act on Continuing Education and falls within the goals of practical learning for the workplace. In this work of the Knowledge Network, special emphasis is placed on providing individuals in the labor market with a short formal education or with reduced opportunities for study or employment with learning opportunities appropriate to them. However, it is also planned to hold short courses for motivation and entertainment. The Knowledge Network is one of 11 recognized lifelong learning centers in the country that operate in continuing education on the basis of Act No. 27/2010 according to an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Children and the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education.
