The Network of Knowledge of Þingeyjar began teaching digital literacy for people aged 60 and over at the beginning of May. The courses, which are sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labour Market, are free of charge for participants and are part of the ministry's initiative to promote digital literacy for people aged 60 and over across the country.
The Network of Knowledge of Þingeyjar is the project's responsible party, but it is carried out in collaboration with Símey. Participants receive training on smart devices (phones and tablets), and topics covered include digital identity and its use, electronic communication, using online banking, and how to shop online.
Each course is eight hours of face-to-face teaching, delivered over four sessions.
Below are photos of the first groups to complete the course in North East Iceland; these were the students who attended the courses in Húsavík and Þingeyjarsýsla.
At the end of May, more courses will be taught, both at Hvammur Care Home for the Elderly and on the Knowledge Network. Enquiries or course registrations can be made by calling 464-5100.
