On Thursday, 24th August, there was an open house at Gíg in the Mývatn area, and many good guests, young and old, came to see the development taking place at this unique place.
The building is already a vibrant workplace and houses the Environmental Agency and Vatnajökull National Park, as well as Ramý, Thingeyjarsveit, The Knowledge Network of the Thingeyjardalir, The Land Restoration Authority, and Huldu – a Centre for Natural Sciences, which is a collaborative platform between the University of Iceland and Svartárkot Culture – Nature.
Rangers provided a fun programme for children, including a successful treasure hunt in glorious weather and dragonfly spotting through binoculars. Coffee and freshly fried doughnuts from Ólína in Hraunkot were served, along with a tour of the house, which has been largely renovated.
