Since FabLab Húsavík opened, its doors have stood wide open to all residents of the area. The aim is to bring in people with ideas, interest and energy to create something fun. It is our task, as those of us working at Stéttin, to get the word out into the community that FabLab Húsavík is one of the best-equipped FabLabs in Iceland, and that the possibilities for creating and making are virtually limitless.

A few days ago, the painter, teacher and heavy metal rocker Björgvin Sigurðsson, or Böbbi from Skálmöld, came to see us. He had been thinking about marking his guitar in our laser cutter for a long time. At heart, Böbbi is a concerned man and he doesn't usually do anything rash. He was therefore quite worried about taking his guitar, in several parts, out of the FabLab after its treatment by the laser cutter. But Stefán Pétur, the FabLab manager, is a consummate professional and after a few hours of deliberating over settings and test runs on all sorts of materials, he gave it a go. Böbbi came up with two runes he wanted to burn into the guitar. One small one on the back and a larger one on the front.
The result was, of course, brilliant. The guitar has become even more magnificent and Böbbi is pleased. There are few things more enjoyable than seeing a happy heavy metal rocker on a Friday.
Thanks for coming, Bóbbi, and to all of you with all sorts of fun ideas, you're always welcome at FabLab Húsavík.
