For over a year, the base of the Þingeyja Knowledge Network in Mývatn has been at Gíg in Mývatn. There, alongside the development of a joint visitor centre for Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður National Park and the Environmental Agency, and the research facilities of Ramý, a knowledge centre has been established. The institutions and parties that have participated in the development, alongside Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður National Park which is leading the project, are: the Environmental Agency, The Mývatn Nature Research Station (Ramý), the National Museum of Natural History of Iceland, Þingeyjarsveit, the Knowledge Network of the People of Þingeyri, the HULDA Centre for Natural Sciences, the University of Iceland Research Centre, Svartárkot Culture – Nature, Land and Forest, and the Mývatn Office. The annual Gígs meeting was held on 7 March, where representatives from the institutions involved in the use of the house came together to discuss the situation and upcoming projects.
