The Network of Knowledge of the Thingeyringa received a grant during the year from the development fund of the North East Iceland Regional Development Plan for a project entitled 'A Window to the World: Away from Home and Back Home Again'. The project is a photography and history project.
The project will involve interviewing six individuals of foreign origin who have been resident in the area served by the North East Iceland Knowledge Network for the past few years. Nicola van Kuilenburg, one of the university students working on a summer project with us at the Knowledge Network this summer, will be working on the project under the guidance of Lilja Berglind Rögnvaldsdóttir and Helena Eydís Ingólfsdóttir.
Nicola will ask her interviewees about their childhood and upbringing in their homeland, their personal life experiences, customs, traditions, culture and events belonging to their homeland that have in one way or another influenced them or shaped their lives. The aim is to bring out stories that are informative for the local community and are intended to increase understanding, tolerance and respect between people.
The final product of the project will be an exhibition where photographs of the interviewees will be displayed, and their stories can be heard in Icelandic, English and the interviewees' mother tongues.
