We've been very busy at Fab Lab Húsavík and the reception for our courses has exceeded expectations. Among other things, we have held two courses in jewellery making which sold out in a short space of time. The participants worked with Jasmonite plaster casting material and made purses, candle holders and more. The possibilities in jewellery making are endless.
Our short courses are also popular, such as SketchUp, a drawing programme, where students learn to draw houses and even a sun deck.
Most recently, a course was held on the use of a large router and the safety issues surrounding it. The Vcarve software was taught, as well as how to draw up and transfer a design to a computerised router. The students did an excellent job, making signs, coasters and more. The picture shows a final project by Karin Gerhartl: a router-cut and laser-engraved coaster made from plywood.
Don't worry! We're far from finished offering exciting courses. This autumn, we're planning to teach our newest machine, and we have more courses in the pipeline that we'll be advertising next autumn!
We recommend that interested parties keep a close eye on the Knowledge Network's website and the Fab Lab Húsavík social media channels, as the courses we advertise sell out quickly. The last one sold out in under 24 hours!
