University students working at The Knowledge Network this summer

Every year, Húsavík Academic Centre hires university students for summer jobs. The projects are varied, and emphasis is placed on finding tasks that are related to their studies and provide them with experience in that field. This summer, we were joined by Aðalbjörn Jóhannsson and Elín Anna Óladóttir. Aðalbjörn is studying social sciences at the University of Akureyri, while Elín is studying architecture at the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Aðalbjörn has been working on an extensive interview study among immigrants in Norðurþing, with a grant from the Development Fund for Immigration Affairs. The aim of the study is to shed light on immigrants' experiences of life in the municipality, what is going well and what challenges they face. The project is being carried out in close collaboration with Norðurþing and SSNE, and it is hoped that the findings will contribute to improvements in services and enhance community awareness in the area.

Elín Anna has been concentrating on the preparations for Design Conference, which will be held in Húsavík on 26–27 September. This year's festival is about food and its diverse manifestations in design and innovation. Elín has been involved in the programme, publicity, and other important aspects of the preparations. She has also taken part in the research with Aðalbirni.

We are extremely grateful for their contribution, ambition and diligence this summer, and proud to have worked with such capable individuals.
