Here is an update on our Erasmus+ project, NICHE 2:
Niche 2 has published all the results from Work Package 2 (WP2), which are now available in several languages on the project's website. In Iceland, Italy, France, Spain and Croatia, Work Package 2 has transformed fragmented knowledge into practical guidance for professionals, teachers and policymakers working at the interface intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and sustainability.
New on our website
1) Summary
Summary of the mapping and analysis carried out by the partners at a national level and from an EU perspective:
- Compiles nationwide findings on the role, preparedness and risks of intangible cultural heritage in the green transition, and is used directly in the development of the upcoming NICHE 2 training programme.
- Guiding readers from situational analysis to practical insights: the dynamics of the sector, barriers and challenges, support systems and best practices, and the skills needed for the transition.
- It is intended as a strategic tool for future training, strategy and funding, which is useful beyond the project's partnership.
2) A collection of exemplary practices (12 examples)
A collection of exemplary best practices covering five partner countries and projects at the EU level, reflecting diverse stakeholders, themes and geographical scales. It demonstrates the range of factors that are important for intangible cultural heritage and sustainability, including:
- The preservation and transmission of intangible cultural heritage
- Green management models for community collections and event venues
- Policy frameworks and conditions for funding
- Smart governance and technological innovations for low-impact tourism
- Training plans
- Sustainable tourism
- Cradle-to-cradle approach / ecodesign
3) GreenComp Matrix
A practical matrix developed by the partners to link the training needs identified in the mapping exercise to the competency criteria of the GreenComp framework from the European Commission. The matrix is used to define clear learning objectives for the NICHE 2 training material and to ensure that the data results are utilised in it.
What's next?
The outputs of Work Package 2 are directly utilised in the design of the NICHE 2 training programme (Work Package 3), which combines technical elements with reflective learning and culturally sensitive dialogues to support professionals in working with cultural heritage and environmental issues in a responsible manner.
