Yesterday was a great day of celebration for Húsavík Academic Centre when eight students graduated from the PCC Heavy Industry School. This is the first time that Húsavík Academic Centre has taught this 400-hour course. Teaching began at the start of the autumn term 2024. A total of 15 students started the course, but as is widely known, there have been various developments at PCC Bakka in recent semesters, and a large proportion of the student body have unfortunately lost their jobs with the company.
Many of the eight who graduated yesterday have lost their jobs, but they decided to complete their studies regardless, which we are extremely pleased and proud of.
The teaching took place for the most part at Stéttinni, but also at the factory in Bakka. Classes were held on Wednesdays from 08:00 to 16:00 for three terms, and this fantastic group of students at Stéttinni will be greatly missed.
This course has been a great learning process for us at Thekkingarnetið. All sorts of projects, both challenging and educational, arose along the way. However, through very close and good cooperation with the management of PCC Bakka, all obstacles were successfully overcome. English is the official language at PCC Bakka, and so all teaching was conducted in English. The programme had not previously been taught in English in Iceland, and therefore a great deal of work was required to create bespoke course materials for the PCC Bakka operations. Our teachers deserve great praise for tackling this project with professionalism and ambition.
We now sincerely hope that things will start to look up at PCC Bakka and that the factory will be able to return to full operation in the new year. We at The Knowledge Network are ready to welcome the next group of students.
