The Network of Knowledge of the People of Þingeyri is currently running the project 'Those Who Will, Understand', which aims to enhance community participation through increased cultural exchange, the use of Icelandic, and the building of connections. The project is supported by the SSNE Development Fund.
The project is based on the simple idea of creating more opportunities for people from different backgrounds to meet, get to know each other, and take an active part in the community. The focus is not on events for specific groups, but on a shared space where all residents, both new and long-established, can interact, build connections and find a way to participate in community life.
As part of the project, an open house and promotional day is planned for early September, where community organisations, sports clubs, cultural activities and other community groups will have the opportunity to present their activities to residents.
The aim is to create a vibrant and accessible event where visitors can walk between stalls, chat with participants and get an insight into the diverse work the community has to offer. Such an event can be the first step for many to find new hobbies, make new connections and become more active participants in the community.
This is also a great opportunity for clubs and community organisations to promote their work, reach new participants and showcase the important role they play in the community. Often, it only takes one good conversation to spark someone's interest in taking part, becoming a volunteer, or starting a new hobby.
The Network of Knowledge of Þingeyjar therefore wishes to encourage as many voluntary organisations and community partners as possible to take part. Promotion can be carried out in various ways, for example with a stand, promotional materials, a demonstration, a short performance or simply a good chat with visitors. It doesn't take much; the most important thing is to talk about your activities and welcome people. We warmly welcome any ideas on the best way to present your work.
The event is planned for the afternoon of Thursday, 3rd September, as the work of voluntary organisations is getting under way again after the summer holidays.
We hope as many people as possible will take part and help us create a diverse, lively and fun event that strengthens the community and makes it easier for people to find a way to get involved. Already, numerous organisations and community groups have signed up, and we hope that even more will join. Together, we can show how vibrant and diverse our community is.
Those interested are encouraged to contact the Thingeyinga Knowledge Network and register their participation as soon as possible at ingibjorg@hac.is or hac@hac.is.
We look forward to working with you on a fun and rewarding day for the whole community.
