Practical skills assessment

To shorten the course of study

The assessment of prior learning by Þekkingarnetið has been extremely successful, and participation has been good among those who wish to have their experience and knowledge recognised for their studies. Through the assessment of prior learning, individuals have the opportunity to have skills they have acquired in the workplace recognised, which can shorten the duration of their studies and ease the path to formal education.

The Knowledge Network has recently been conducting competence assessments in the service industries and for nursing staff, and in collaboration with Iðuna in the skilled trades.

In recent years, many people have successfully made use of this important resource. Experience shows that a competency-based assessment can be a powerful route for people who have acquired extensive professional experience but have not completed formal qualifications in their field. The process has proven to be both positive and constructive for participants, creating new opportunities for further learning and career development.

We would like to encourage anyone interested in a competency-based assessment to contact us to find out more about the options. To be eligible for the assessment, an individual must have at least three years' professional experience in the field and be 23 years of age or older.

A skills assessment can be the first step towards further study, enhanced professional qualifications, or new opportunities in the job market. Our staff can provide further information about the process and assist those who are interested in assessing the next steps. You can get in touch at hac@hac.is for further information.
