The Network of Knowledge of Þingeying is offering a two-day course on practical artificial intelligence in Húsavík on 9 and 10 October 2026. The course is intended for those who have little to no experience with artificial intelligence but want to learn how to use it to their advantage — in their work, studies and daily life. No technical knowledge is required, only curiosity and a willingness to try. People of all ages are very welcome.
What is the course about?
Artificial intelligence is one of the most powerful tools available to the public, but many are hesitant to take the first step. In this course, we cover the basics in plain English, look at numerous practical examples, and give participants the opportunity to work on their own projects with guidance. The aim is simple: for you to leave with greater confidence and the tools to continue in your own way.
On the course, you will learn, among other things:
- What artificial intelligence is — explained in 'plain English'”
- Practical examples from work and daily life: writing, organisation, saving time and solving tasks
- Formulating good questions and critically evaluating the answers
- What to avoid — privacy, trust and responsible use
- Ways to continue learning independently after the course
Agenda
Friday 9 October
- 9 am–12 pm — Lecture: How artificial intelligence can be used in a wide variety of tasks and jobs, with examples, questions and discussions.
- 13:00–16:00 — Workshop I: Participants start working on their own project — one large one or several smaller ones — and receive assistance in developing an approach.
Saturday 10 October
- 9am–12pm — Workshop II: Participants delve deeper into their projects, reviewing what worked well and how best to proceed. Summary and next steps.
It is advisable to bring a laptop and an idea for a project, so that the workshop can be used as effectively as possible. Timings are subject to minor changes.
Guide
The guide is Hulda Ragnheiður Árnadóttir, CEO of the Icelandic Natural Catastrophe Insurance. Hulda has mastered using artificial intelligence in her daily work and is passionate about sharing that knowledge. In her words: "I went to university late and have come a long way by believing in my own abilities, and by seizing the tools available at the time. AI is the latest tool in my toolbox — and I want to share that experience with those who have yet to take this step."„
