Námskeiðið er ætlað öllum þeim sem vilja læra skyndihjálp og endurlífgun og öðlast þekkingu og góða færni í að veita nærstöddum aðstoð í bráðatilfellum. Námskeið fyrir þá sem vilja gefa sér góðan tíma í að læra skyndihjálp s.s. almenning, sjálfboðaliða í skyndihjálparhópum Rauða krossins og nemendur sem fá einingu fyrir að taka skyndihjálparnámskeið.
Objective:
To increase participants' knowledge and skills in the safe application of simple first aid techniques.
To improve skills in assessing the symptoms of common illnesses and injuries.
Subject
Introduction; what is first aid?
Fundamentals; emergency stress, emotional responses after providing first aid, psychological support and infection prevention.
The four steps of first aid: ensure the scene is safe, assess the condition of the injured or ill, get help and give first aid.
Grunnendurlífgun og sjálfvirkt hjartastuð; að athuga viðbrögð, að opna öndunarveg, að athuga öndun, hjartahnoð og blástursaðferð, sjálfvirkt hjartastuð (AED), endurlífgunarkeðjan, hliðarlega og losun aðskotahlutar úr öndunarvegi.
First aid:
Áverkar; innvortis- og útvortis blæðingar, sár, brunasár, áverkar á höfði, hálsi eða baki, áverkar á beinum, vöðvum eða liðum, eitranir hitaslag/hitaörmögnun og ofkæling.
Acute illness; chest pain (heart attack), acute allergy, stroke, seizures, diabetes and breathing difficulties (asthma).
Skyndihjálp framhald; nánari líkamsskoðun, eitrun, blóðnasir, lost, sár og sáraumbúðir, raflost, höfuðáverkar, tannáverkar, skorðun á hrygg, áverkar á brjóstkassa og kvið, vöðvakrampar, sýklasótt, yfirlið og spelkun útlima.

Entry requirements
It is advisable that participants familiarise themselves with the study material before the course begins.
Assessment
Performance is assessed continuously throughout the course. There is no requirement to complete a written or practical exam, but it is available to participants at the end of the course.
Acknowledgement
After completing the course, participants receive a certificate from the Icelandic Red Cross and the Ministry of Welfare. Refresher training is recommended every two years.
The topics are an add-on for a 4-hour course.
