The Network of Knowledge of the Thingeysing

  • Accommodation for remote examinations must meet the following requirements:
    • The furniture is comparable to that in universities.
    • Air quality and temperature meet the requirements of the authorities.
    • A telephone must be available on site to which a member of staff in the invigilator's office has access.
    • Toilets are available at the test centre.
  • Computer-based tests to be taken under supervision
    • The Thingeyingja Knowledge Network provides computers for students who need to sit invigilated online exams, unless the school authorises them to use their own.
    • Ensure that an internet connection is available or switched off, depending on the nature of the test.
    • A student using a computer in an exam, whether for an electronic exam or due to exemptions, must never be left unsupervised in the examination room.
  • The invigilation of remote examinations is carried out as follows:
    • The Network of Thingeyinga provides people to supervise exams and is responsible for ensuring that these rules are followed.
    • It is permitted to sit more than one exam at the same time in the same room.
    • As a general rule, invigilators may never leave the room while an exam is in progress. An exception is permitted, however, that if a student is alone in the examination room, the invigilator may leave the room temporarily, provided that no materials, devices, outer garments or anything else are left in the room (cf. examination regulations below).
  • The handling of examination papers and answers shall be as follows:
    • The invigilator receives the exam scripts and then sends the original scripts to the relevant school by landmail. If the exam is to be sent by recorded delivery or by any other method, this is at the request and expense of the relevant school. Universities may request that a security copy of the exam paper be made, either by scanning or photocopying, and will be responsible for the associated costs.
  • Proctor
    • The Network of Knowledge of the Thingeyingas shall appoint a proctor from among its staff. This proctor is responsible for communication with schools, the receipt of examinations, and the return of scripts.
  • Announcements
    • If unexpected circumstances arise during a remote examination, such as a power cut, an error in the setting of the examination, or a suspicion that a mistake has been made, Þekkingarnet Þingeyinga shall notify the relevant school and decide on the next steps in consultation with the school.
  • Schools must have exams ready on a website, sent by email or by post at least 24 hours before the exam.
  • Schools are responsible for notifying the Thingeyrar Knowledge Network of remote examinations in their area and for requesting services.
  • If electronic data is submitted as part of an examination (e.g. audio recordings), it is the school's responsibility to ensure that the Þingeyinga Knowledge Network can submit the data. Continuing Education Centres/University Centres are not responsible for schools' electronic data.
  • Schools ensure, in consultation with the North East Education Network, that the relevant school's exam papers are available at each examination centre.
  • Announcements
    • If unexpected circumstances arise during the administration of a remote exam, such as a power cut, suspicion of a miscalculation, or an error in the setting of the exam, the university shall notify the relevant centre for continuing education/campus and decide on the next steps in consultation with the institution.
  1. Students are required to switch off their mobile phones and hand them in to the invigilators for safekeeping while the exam is in progress.

  4. Students must have a valid photo ID available for invigilators. (A roll call will be taken.)
  5. On the examination desk, there shall be no items other than examination papers, stationery, identification and permitted aids, as directed at any given time.

  11. If a student finishes an exam before the allotted time is up, they must inform the invigilator, hand in their paper and leave quietly. Noise is not permitted in the corridors or when leaving the building.
